- The first bars of Fantasques expose a discreet pattern made of an oscillation, presented by the clarinet and repeated by the piano. This motive develops freely through the work, creating capricious figures wich turns luminous and dark. Clarinet and pianoimitates or doubles the other instrument, most of the time developing a great virtuosity. This work belongs to a collection of studies which are all short pieces for various chamber ensembles - studies in character, composition and listening, whose challenge lies at least as much in the musical quality necessary for their interpretation as in their more or less difficult execution.
