- Three Formants Three Formants is a piece centered on three different vowel formants created by the oral cavity of the performer and the opening and closing of a plunger mute on the bell of theTrombone. The work was crafted to be performed in a large, resonant space, with the five trombonists spatially placed in a circle surrounding the audience. The musical material continuously moves around the circle, passing from one trombonist to the next, playing on the different patterns of interferences created depending on the proximity of one performer to the next and relationship between their corresponding pitch material.
