- Notes:
- Boronea explores two contrasting sound worlds of the low clarinets. First, it exaggerates the muddy low register with a dense, rumbling mass of sound that accompanies the lowest notes of the contrabass clarinet. This idea alternates with the more open, throaty sound of the middle register. As the piece progresses, the muddiness of the low register gradually subsides while the spectrum of the middle register gradually introduces higher partials, increasing the openness of the sound. Additionally, the muddy sections shrink temporally while the open sections expand. Once the two parts of this process meet up, the process reverses and the music quickly returns to an area similar to its beginning.
