Notes:
Foráneo comes from latin foras, which means outside. In english is the root of the word foreigner. At first when I started this piece for wind ensemble, percussion an pianoI wanted to explore the polyphonies and complex textures that we can find in the music for wind ensembles in Eastern-Europe and in South-America. I think that these musics had a common points with my own language, which is based in complex repetition of elements where each parameter of sound has different cycles. The notion of foreign was used also in the construction of the materials, using technics that come from other musical languages and some of the materials are based on a "unusual" technic. In the central section of the piece the two percussionists occupy the pianowhich is a metaphor of what can be seen as an invasion and ends up in a complementary interaction. The word foráneo is related to what is strange, and this inspired me to use strange orchestration mixtures and a fragmented form that avoided linearity and searches a different way of striking the audience memory.
