Summary:
This is a manuscript of a bifolium originally from a codex used by a gabbai for the Tzuf Dvash Synagogue in the Old City of Jerusalem (then Ottoman Palestine); this bifolium was used to inscribe the names of the children born to members, as well as rabbis, dignitaries, and the Jewish communities of Gibraltar and Jaffa (verso). Births in the Elmalih family (אלמליח; originally Moroccan, prominent in 19th and 20th century Jerusalem) mentioned; other prominent names include ibn Attar, Aflalu, and Adhan. A prayer for Rabbi Daṿid ben Shimʻon (1824-1879) is followed by the communal Tiḳun karet (specific remedial procedure for one in violation of a sin deserving spiritual extirpation; a cabalistic process often used by one uncertain if they committed sin), which included fasting and praying at the Western Wall. Written in a Moroccan cursive script on blue onionskin paper; lower portion of paper damaged.
