- Summary:
- This is a manuscript of a fundraising letter designed to accompany an agent of Yeshivat Torat ḥayim, a yeshiva founded in the Old City of Jerusalem in 1887 by Yitsḥaḳ and Yosef Eliyahu Ṿinograd (brothers from Pinsk, Belarus). The yeshiva had secured funding during its initial years to reside in the Jewish Quarter, but it had moved to the Muslim Quarter (near the Via Dolorosa) in April 1894, after which funding was stopped by Alexander III of Russia and the yeshiva had to secure other funding. This manuscript names Aharon Meʼir Dragiṭshin (Yiddish for Drahichyn, Belarus) as the emissary of the yeshiva, and the letter presents a long plea for funds due to the yeshiva's dire situation. Title borders and featured elements in black and gilt (f. 1r, f. 2r), and verses for Jerusalem written in silver gilding (f. 1r), with round crosshatching (f. 1r, f.2r); autograph of Yitsḥaḳ Ṿinograd, Menaḥem Menkhen Hailprin (with accompanying stamp), and the stamp of Yeshivat Torat ḥayim and accompanying signature of Yaʻaḳov Blumenthal in blue ink.
