Summary:
Verdi's Rigoletto presents one of opera's greatest scores--a masterful blend of stirring melody and searing drama--but also places great demands upon its three principal singers. For this performance, the Met assembled a trio of New York-born stars in the lead roles. Brooklyn native Robert Merrill imbues his interpretation of the title character with a fiery intensity that is matched by his lyrical warmth. Hailing from the Bronx, Roberta Peters sings Gilda, a role the soprano performed a record 88 times with the company, with characteristically shimmering high notes, crystalline accuracy, and an outpouring of emotion. And, as the licentious Duke of Mantua, hometown favorite Richard Tucker charms with his bright and ardent timbre. Maestro Fausto Cleva conducts an energetic performance that also includes young American mezzo-soprano Mignon Dunn as the flirtatious Maddalena.

Preludio
Della mia bella incognita borghese
Questa o quella
Partite? Crudele!
Gran nuova! Gran nuova!
Ch'io gli parli ... Oh tu che la festa audace hai turbato
Quel vecchio maledivami!
Pari siamo!
Figlia! Mio padre!
Deh non parlare al misero
Ah! veglia, o donna
Giovanna, ho dei rimosi
È'il sol dell'anima
Che m'ami, deh, ripetimi ... Addio, addio speranza ed anima
Gualtier Maldè! ... Caro nome che il mio cor
Riedo! ... perchè?
Zitti, zitti moviamo a vendetta
Ella mi fu rapita!
Parmi veder le lagrime
Duca, duca! ... Scorrendo uniti remota via
Povero Rigoletto!
Cortigiani, vil razza dannata
Mio padre! ... Dio! mia Gilda!
Parla siam soli ... Tutte le feste al tempio
Compiuto pur quanto ... Sì, vendetta, tremenda vendetta
E l'ami?.. Sempre
La donna è mobile
Un dì, se ben rammentomi
Bella figlia dell'amore
M'odi! ... Venti scudi, hai tu detto?
Ah più non ragiono
Della vendetta alfin giunge l'instante!
Chi è mai, chi è qui in sua vece? ... V'ho ingannato.
