- Summary:
- A delightful fairy-tale adventure that teaches powerful lessons about love, friendship, and brotherhood, The Magic Flute--the Met's abridged, English-language adaptation of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte--can be appreciated by operagoers of all ages. In this radio broadcast from the 2018-19 season, the opera, which includes some of the composer's most popular tunes, bursts to life with an enchanting young cast. Tenor Ben Bliss is the noble Prince Tamino, who goes on a quest to rescue the imprisoned Princess Pamina, sung by soprano Erin Morley. Along the way, Tamino and the lovable bird catcher Papageno, sung by baritone Nathan Gunn, find themselves caught between the forces of good--represented by bass Morris Robinson's benevolent Sarastro--and evil--embodied by soprano Kathryn Lewek's malevolent Queen of the Night. On the podium, Mozart specialist Harry Bicket conducts this special holiday presentation, perfect listening for any time of the year.
