Summary:
In adapting Sir Walter Scott's Romantic novel The Bride of Lammermoor for the operatic stage, Donizetti crafted a thrilling drama replete with gripping intrigue and vocal fireworks, all culminating in a chilling mad scene for the title character. In this performance, soprano Olga Peretyatko-Mariotti is Lucia, the young woman driven insane by her brother's selfish ambition, opposite exuberant tenor Vittorio Grigolo as her lover Edgardo. Baritone Massimo Cavalletti sings Enrico, who believes that only his sister's arranged marriage can save his family's honor and restore its fortunes, and bass Vitalij Kowaljow is the compassionate Raimondo. Conductor Gareth Morrell leads the Met Orchestra and Chorus in one of the most beloved of all bel canto operas.
Contents:
Percorrete le spiagge vicine
Tu sei turbato!
Cruda, funesta smania
La pietade in suo favore
Ancor non giunse?
Regnava nel silenzio alta la notte bruna
Quando, rapito in estasi
Egli s'avanza ... Lucia, perdona se ad ora inusitata
Sulla tomba che rinserra il tradito genitore
Qui di sposa eterna fede ... Veranno a te sull'aure
Lucia fra poco a te verrà ... Tremante l'aspetto
Appressati, Lucia ... Il pallor funesto, orrendo
Soffriva nel pianto ... Un folle t'accese
Che Fia! ... Se tradirmi tu potrai
Ebben? Di tua speranza
Al ben de' tuoi qual vittima
Per te d'immenso giubilo ... Per poco fra le tenebre
Dov'è Lucia? ... Piange la madre estinta
Chi mi frena in tal momento
T'allontana, sciagurato ... Esci, fuggi, il furor che mi accende
Orrida è questa notte
Qui del padre ancor respira
D'immenso giubilo s'innalzi un grido
Dalle stanze, ove Lucia ... Oh! Qual funesto avvenimento!
Eccola! Oh, giusto cielo! ... Il dolce suono mi colpi di sua voce!
Ohimè! sorge il tremendo fantasma
Ardon gli incensi
S'avanza Enrico!
Spargi d'amaro pianto
Tombe degli avi miei
Fra poco a me ricovero
Oh, meschina! Oh, fato orrendo!
Tu che a Dio spiegasti l'ali.
