Summary:
This all-star cast is conducted by James Levine who brings out all the sumptuous colors and sweeping rhythms of Richard Strauss's enchanting Viennese fairy-tale opera. Renée Fleming, in one of her signature roles, is Princess von Werdenberg, the wise and wonderful Marschallin who captures everyone's heart as she gracefully accepts the passing of time, even though it means the loss of a love. Susan Graham is the impetuous Octavian, youthful lover of the Marschallin, who then falls instantly in love with young Sophie (Heidi Grant Murphy) while presenting her with the silver rose that marks her engagement to Baron Ochs (Franz Hawlata)-a situation as fraught with comic complications as it is tearful emotions. With Hans-Joachim Ketelsen as Sophie's father, Faninal.
Contents:
Wie Du warst!
Du bist mein Bub, Du bist mein Schatz!
Marie Theres! Octavian!
Der Feldmarschall sitzt im crowatischen Wald
Nicht dort, dort ist das Vorzimmer
Selbstverständlich empfängt mich Ihro Gnaden
Macht das einen lahmen Esel aus mir?
Drei arme, adelige Waisen
Di rigori armato il seno
Als Morgengabe...ganz separatim jedoch
Mein lieber Hypolyte
Da geht er hin
Ah! Du bist wieder da?
Die Zeit, die ist ein sonderbar Ding
Mein schöner Schatz
Ich hab ihn nicht einmal geküßt
Einerster Tag, ein großer Tag
In dieser feierlichen Stunde der Prüfung
Mir ist die Ehre widerfahren
Ich kenn' Ihn schon recht wohl
Jetzt aber kommt mein Herr Zukünftiger
Ganz wie's im Liedel heißt
Wird Sie das Mannsbild da heiraten
Was Sie ist?
Herr Baron von Lerchenau!
Nicht mehr. Mich um Pardon!
Da lieg' ich
Ohne mich
Herr Cavalier!
Introduction and Pantomime
Hab'n Euer Gnaden noch weitre Befehle?
Nein, nein
I trink kein Wein
Die schöne Musi!
Wie die Stund hingeht
O weh, was maken wir?
Sind desto eher im Klaren!
Bin glücklich über Maßen
Bin von so viel Finesse charmiert, kann gar nicht sagen
Ist halt vorbei
Mein Gott! Es war nicht mehr
Marie Theres!
Hab' mir's gelobt
Ist ein Traum, kann nicht wirklich sein.
