Summary:
Premiered immediately before the enduring masterpieces Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, and La Traviata, Luisa Miller incorporates the youthful vitality that had made Verdi an international sensation while also looking forward to the dramaturgical discipline and sophistication of those later works. In this Live in HD performance, soprano Sonya Yoncheva takes on the riveting title role, capping off a season in which she starred in three cinema transmissions. As her father, Miller, the legendary Plácido Domingo adds another baritone role to his extensive repertoire. Tenor Piotr Beczała as Rodolfo, Alexander Vinogradov as Count Walter, and Dmitry Belosselskiy as Wurm round out the illustrious cast, and Bertrand de Billy conducts.

Opening credits
Introduction by Anthony Roth Costanzo
Sinfonia
Ti desta, Luisa, regina de'cori
Ecco mia figlia
Lo vidi, e'l primo palpito
T'amo d'amor ch'esprimere
Ferma ed ascolta
Sacra la scelta è d'un consorte
Costarti o vecchio debole
Ah! fu giusto il mio sospetto!
Che mai narrasti!
Il mio sangue, la vita darei
Padre ... M'abbraccia ... Portator
Quale un sorriso d'amica sorte
Duchessa ... Dall'aule raggianti
Sciogliete i levrieri
Del Conte di Walter figlio
Tu, tu, signor fra queste soglie!
Fra'mortali ancora oppressa
I cenni miei si compiano
Ah! Luisa, Luisa ove sei?
Il padre tuo ... Finisci
Tu puniscimi, o Signore
Qui nulla s'attenta imporre al tuo core
A brani, a brani, o perfido
Egli delira: sul mattin degli anni
L'alto retaggio non ho bramato
Vien la Duchessa! ...
Presentarti all Duchessa
Il foglio dunque? ... Io tutto già vi narrai!
Quando le sere al placido
Di me chiedeste? ... Appressati. Leggi.
L'ara, o l'avello apprestami
Introduction to Act III by Anthony Roth Costanzo
Come in un giorno solo
O dolce amica, e ristorar non vuoi
Pallida, mesta sei! ... No, padre mio
La tomba è un letto sparso di fiori
Andrem, raminghi e poveri
Ah! l'ultima preghiera
Piangi, piangi il tuo dolore
Donna per noi terribile ora squillò suprema! ...
Padre, ricevi l'estremo addio
