- Summary:
- The archaeological site of Cantona, located in the state of Puebla, sits on a Pleistocene basaltic spill, covering an area of 14.53 km. The city is composed of walls, streets, sidewalks, residential courtyards and units, architectural composed of platforms, pyramids, squares and a total of 27 ball game fields; 11 of them located in the area that archaeologist Ángel García Cook recognizes as the main religious civic center of the settlement, while the rest of the courtyards are distributed throughout the site. Cantona is, so far, the archaeological city with the largest number of structures of this type. Our research provides an analysis of the ball games from 350 BC to 950 BC, in order to determine their location, characteristics, temporality, temporal evolution and spatiality; it also shows their similarity to ball game fields located in neighboring regions and helps to glimpse the process of occupation of the settlement. The collection of such data and their study will contribute to future researchers having more elements to draw their own conclusions.
