Summary:
"Etazhi, a second-year textbook for learning Russian, embraces the communicative approach, which is closely tied to ACTFL guidelines, within a diverse Russian culture to prepare students for study abroad (typically in third year) and to ensure strong vocabulary improvements. It covers one year of instruction. The highlight of the book is the life stories gathered by the authors from native and nonnative speakers and arranged within the six thematic chapters. Together with other authentic texts, these feed the many discussion opportunities, vocabulary, and grammar. To further encourage the communicative method, grammar appears in various texts and is recycled in subsequent chapters but it is not presented traditionally. Instead, students can refer to it in a healthy appendix, the Grammar Reference, which includes essential charts and lists for learning at this level. The culturally rich authentic life stories, art, and literature integrate culture into the traditional language learning components and present the very diverse and lively presentation of Russian speakers. This book could precede Panorama in sequence. Special features: audio transcripts to aid in comprehension checks, Grammar Reference, extensive glossary, free audio, and Russian artist's hand-drawn images"-- Provided by publisher.
