Singer-Mendenhall copy has manuscript transcription of two poems on front free endpaper: "A Poet's Career" (first line: Toil without profit, labour without end" by J. Maynard and "St. Patrick" (first line: Hail Patron of Erin, bright st[ar]. of the west!).
Acquired for the Penn Libraries with assistance from the Pauline R. Goldfein Memorial Book Fund.
Singer-Mendenhall copy purchased for the Penn Libraries in 2021 from Amanda Hall Rare Books.
Singer-Mendenhall copy has bookplate ("Michael Comerford, Browne-St., Carlow") on front pastedown; paper slip with manuscript ownership inscription ("Thi[...] book belongs to Thomas Gilfoyle, formerly of the constabulary of the Tinahely District, co. Wicklow, & transferred thence to Carlow in 13th December 1853. A native of Coolaghmore near Callan, Co. Kilkenny. Written at Michael Treacy's, Greystone-St. Carrick on this Saturday, 16th of July, 1881."), the owner possibly to be identified with Thomas Gilfoyle (ca. 1829-1899) affixed to front pastedown.
Singer-Mendenhall copy: portion of head margin of title leaf torn off and replaced with a blank leaf; head margin of leaf B1 torn off and replaced with a blank leaf; hole in central portion of leaf preceding half-title leaf mended with a blank leaf.
