- Notes:
- A decade after the publication of her first book of chronicles, Rima Brusi-Gil de Lamadrid celebrates her debut with "Chulos de la pobreza y otros cronicas", an indisputable sequel and testimony of what happened in Puerto Rico and the world for the past years. The sinister and irredeemable institutional picaresque, the COVID 19 pandemic as the culmination of a succession of misfortunes in Puerto Rico, life at risk on a planet increasingly besieged by the Anthropocene, seem to prevail in these chronicle-notes-stories-essays, masterfully illustrated by Zuleira Soto Roman. But Rima reminds us, as in "My favorite tecato," that humanity is capable of resisting and creating a better existence. In this installment, orchestrated in a triptych -- People, Street and Wagons -- people take to the streets and gestate other countries that dissipate the rage and the duels that the wagons carry. "Pimp of poverty and other chronicles" is an ode to all the hands that impregnate us and stop the utopia here and now. It is a hopeful song in the daily struggle. It is life itself that is born despite everything and that does not stop.
