Summary:
Important compendium of artist Emiliano Di Cavalcanti (b. Rio de Janeiro, 1897-1976)
Emiliano Augusto Cavalcanti de Albuquerque Melo, known as Di Cavalcanti (Rio de Janeiro, 1897-1976), was one of the main representative artists of modernism in Brazilian arts and creator of the "Semana de Arte Modernaʺ (Week of Modern Art) along with figures such as Mário de Andrade, Oswald de Andrade and Menotti Del Picchia. The exhibition that bears his name opens a series of events that will take place in 2022 in the city of São Paulo in commemoration of the centennial anniversary of the historic art event. Presenting murals produced between 1925 and1970, the exhibition curated by Ivo Mesquita brings a scarcely studied facet of Di Cavalcanti work -given the complexity of bringing the murals to the space of a museum- and exploring the part of his oeuvre that combined his figurative art with architecture. In his compositions, the influence of Mexican muralists became evident already in the mid-1920s, after a period of his stay in Paris and contact with several avant-garde exponents."
