- Summary:
- The majority of Unamuno's characters are obsessed with their will (voluntad), but there are others who seem to exhibit little or none (noluntad). However, being willful or amenable is not the same as possessing or not posessing agency, which involves the potential to achieve certain ends. This book studies the presence and absence of agency in the characters who populate Unamuno's longer fiction. The result is a revealing commentary on the passimism inherent in Unamuno's philosophical and religious struggles.
