Summary:

This is a manuscript of a devotional prayer of a mohel to be recited and meditated upon throughout his work; the prayer first thanks God for creating the world and then granting the supplicant a soul, and for bestowing him with further goodness that “You created me not woman nor slave", and praying that the children who the mohel will circumcise guard the Torah's covenant and not engage in illicit relationships (עריות) or rabbinically prohibited unions (שניות מדברי סופרים). The prayer addresses a specific name of God (El Shaddai, אל שדי), which was the Name of God revealed to Abraham when he was commanded to circumcise (see Genesis 17:1). Item originally a bifolium in a codex, with a cancelled stub remaining; the prayer continued on the following bifolium (now lost). Lower and outer edges deckle-edge.
