Summary:
"Primo Levi's work presents an extraordinarily rich and somewhat enigmatic case of intertextuality. A curious, omnivorous, asystematic reader, Levi explored multiple fields of knowledge - literary, scientific, historical and others - browsing through specialized books and magazines, for reasons of research or pure entertainment, often approaching foreign cultures in the original language, moved by an eclectic curiosity and an intense desire to know and understand. Already fathomed in part by Levi himself in his anthology The search for roots (1981), the library of Levi remains to be discovered and full of surprises. With this volume we have tried to trace the features of an imaginary map, a scheme of grafts, intertexts and transplants that connect the Levian work to the books of others, comparing it with twenty authors, in a multi-colored and multilingual range that includes classics such as Dante, Shakespeare, Carroll and Leopardi, authors of modern literature such as Calvino, Kafka and Mann, and scientists like Galileo, Darwin, Heisenberg and Lorenz"-- Provided by publisher.
