Summary:
"Seat of Thorns tells the story of a young priest, Fr. Peter Ndong, who on return to his country after studies at a seminary in Europe is posted to spread the good news in his village, Ningan. He faces numerous challenges as he is supposed to inherit his uncle as the Chief of Aboa village. He goes against the rules and doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church in order to reconcile the white man's tradition and that of Kom. He successfully forges a union between the two systems of belief and this leads to the conversion of his entire village to the ways of Christ. Unfortunately, this earns for him the wrath of his Church hierarchy that dismisses him from priesthood. His tenacity pushes him to start a new church that completely blends the African culture and Christianity. Religious conflict, superstition, African cosmology and jealousy constitute some of the themes that Ateh Francis carefully weaves into this work to make it a masterpiece."--Page 4 of cover.
