- Summary:
- This is a manuscript of a eulogy for R. Eleazar Fleckeles (Prague, 1754-1826, Rosh av beth din and chief rabbi; in this manuscript, he is referred to as "Mo. ha-rav A.F.", מוהרא"ף). Themes from the eulogy are taken from Psalms 49, on the dual subjects of the vanity of collecting wealth in tandem with death as both tragic ends for men, using it to allude to the fight by Fleckeles against certain prominent and wealthy Prague families for their associations with Sabbateanism and Frankism. Written in an Ashkenazic cursive script; originally a bifolium, paper now pressed flat as a single leaf, with the original gutter apparent. Item originated in the Bohemia (today the Czech Republic), perhaps Prague (or alternatively in a location in which Fleckeles was known).
