Originally published in 1873. Treatise on the economic conditions and history of Haiti between 1844 and 1915. Démesvar Delorme (1831-1901) was a Haitian writer, and politician. He participated in Sylvain Salnave's failed rebellion against President Fabre Geffrard in 1865 and later served in the Salnave administration once he was later elected. In 1868, Delorme was forced to leave the country and fled to Paris where he lived in exile for ten years, publishing several works including Bulletin de la Révolution (1865), La Reconnaissance du Général Salnave (1868), Francesca (1873), Les Paisibles (1874), Le Damné (novel, 1877) and his best known essay Les Théoriciens au Pouvoir (1870), which postulated that political power should belong to the intellectual elite.
