Though best known for his work as a dramatist, Schehadé was first and foremost a poet, producing seven volumes of crystalline poems from which the present selection is drawn. The poet Adonis introduces this collection, in which "the universe is winged." Imbuing the Surrealist vision with musical longing, his poems take flight in Austin Carder's versions.
