Summary:
"The first book-length translation of works by this important Lebanese-French poet, Poetries presents the core of Georges Schehadé's (1905-1989) œuvre. Though best known for his work as a dramatist, Schehadé was first and foremost a poet, producing seven volumes of crystalline poems from which the present selection is drawn. The poet Adonis introduces this collection, in which "the universe is winged." Imbuing the Surrealist vision with musical longing, his poems take flight in Austin Carder's versions. The Académie française awarded Schehadé the inaugural Grand prix de la francophonie in 1986"-- Provided by publisher.
