Summary:
The original 7 Up, first broadcast in 1964 as a World in Action special, featured children from widely different social backgrounds sharing their hopes and dreams for the future. This unique, groundbreaking series set out to discover how far the children's lives were pre-determined by their upbringing. Director Michael Apted has returned every seven years to chart the group's progress, documenting the participants as they have become adults and entered middle-age, dealing with everything life has thrown at them in between; the very first example of a programme recording real people living real lives, this memorable series has won an array of awards. Now, as the group reach retirement age, the series is back to discover what has been happening in their lives. Across three programmes, 63 Up reveals more life-changing decisions, more shocking announcements and joy and tears in equal measure. Also included is 7 Up & Me - in celebration of the Up series, a number of celebrity fans discuss its impact on popular culture and its lasting legacy.
