Summary:
"In this book, Alba Girons and Nicholas Swinehart provide an introduction to how to each languages in what is called a "blended synchronous learning" (BSL) environment, in which both face-to-face and remote students participate in the same class simultaneously, often via video conferencing. Universities and colleges are increasingly turning to this mode to teach languages with lower enrollments. It provides flexibility for students who are geographically dispersed and allows instructors to reach a larger audience, which is especially attractive for less commonly-taught languages (LCTLs). This book will be of interest to language instructors and program administrators, as it is a concise beginner's guide to BSL in the L2 classroom--how to set up a BSL environment for success and the pedagogical considerations necessary to creating meaningful learning experiences for face-to-face and remote students alike. Topics covered include: the benefits of teaching in BSL environments, how to prepare to teach in a BSL environment (including, training, technology, and pedagogical considerations), and the challenges that a new BSL instructor may face in this teaching environment"--
