- Summary:
- Following her breakthrough exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam after being nominated for the Prix de Rome in 2019 (the oldest and most prestigious award in the Netherlands for artists under the age of 40), Esiri Erheriene-Essi, the London-born but Amsterdam-based artist, made her name as one of the most promising emerging painters of her generation. Esiri Erheriene-Essi bases her mixed media paintings on archival documentation that often depict the lives of black families in the 1950s-1980s, showing them in vibrant technicolor where old film cartridges failed to do so.
