- Summary:
- A story of the strange meandering river of life. Young Nellie is left an orphan when her parents pass away but the Hilton family, simply living farmers, takes her in. She finds happiness there with the Hiltons and their youngest son Jimmie. But when the breadwinner, elder brother John, is called to war, Nellie decides she must not be a burden on the dear family and hires out as a maid, only to end up with the dangerous and cruel Cain family.
