- Summary:
- Život advokáta Kamilla Reslera byl plný paradoxů. Jako mladík byl aktivní v Sokole i v anarchistických a dělnických spolcích. Čtyři roky sloužil v rakouské armádě, ale vážně zraněn byl až v československém vojsku. V roce 1936 obhajoval Němce obviněného z velezrady, kvůli čemuž byl označen za zrádce a defétistu. Po Mnichovu se ale postavil za židovské kolegy z advokacie a za války působil v odboji. Kamill Resler byl však především muž, který dovedl přesvědčit jednoho z představitelů Třetí říše, aby se vzdal nacismu: jako obhájce K. H. Franka před retribuční spravedlností se stal člověkem, kterému se Frank otevřel jako nikomu jinému, a to přesto, že jej Resler - jak Frank uvedl - deprimoval svou neúprosnou tvrdostí a kritikou německých akcí. Tato kniha nabízí komplexní pohled na Reslerův život a jeho pohled na chvíle, kdy hájil klienty jak proti vůli společnosti, tak i proti vůli své. Jedním z jeho odkazů je definice hlavního úkolu advokáta: „Obhájce musí [tedy] zapomenout na své vlastní cítění a smýšlení, vzdát se své osobnosti a, ať je mu to sebetrpčí, konat svou povinnost do všech důsledků.“
