Biography/History:
Alberto Tagliaferro is an associate professor of solid-state physics at Politecnico di Torino, Italy, where he is head of the Carbon Group, and an adjunct professor at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Canada. He has been active in the field of carbon materials, their properties and applications for almost 30 years and has co-authored over 190 publications. Carlo Rosso is an associate professor of machine design at Politecnico di Torino. His research topics are related to the fatigue and dynamic design of components and the metal replacement philosophy. He has 60 publications and 4 patents. Mauro Giorcelli is a researcher in the Material and Science Technology Department at Politecnico di Torino. He is a co-founder of Carbon Group and he has over 10 years' experience in carbon materials and carbon-based composites. He has over 80 publications and over 700 citations.
Summary:
This reference text covers the latest developments in biochar materials research, a field which is becoming increasingly popular due to the potential of biochar to replace carbon materials derived from non-renewable sources. Emerging and innovative applications of biochar materials are discussed, and all aspects of the field are covered, from production to applications, including details on the techniques used. There is a particular focus on biochar as a material for composites and sensors. This is the first book to cover emerging applications of biochar as an innovative, versatile, carbon-based renewable material, beyond its traditional uses in agriculture. It is a valuable reference for all researchers in the fields of biochar and carbon materials, including industry practitioners.
