Summary:
Ridesharing services were introduced in Dhaka as an effective solution to the never-ending problem of traffic jams and gained huge popularity within a short period of time, in spite of being an unregulated service. People could share their car ride with passengers through designated apps and cut back the load on the road. Ride sharing on fast-moving motorcycles became the best choice for the corporate people. However, this blessing turned into a curse when these motorcycle riders started riding recklessly on the road and complicated the traffic situation by riding on footpaths, on the wrong side, and every other way they could see to get through. This reckless driving caused several accidents, and some people lost their lives. This case describes the most desired solution for never-ending traffic in the city of Dhaka, with a focus on the chronology of events involved and the complications of the legalization of the ridesharing service. It also reviews the benefits and shortcomings of the service and its impact on stakeholders. It is expected that students will be able to use this case study as the basis for understanding business management and all the complications a business might face. Students might also find some solutions to these problems on their own.
