- Summary:
- Hylo is a web and mobile app, in beta release, that hosts a social network of networks to enable community resource sharing in a co-created eco-system. The networking platform was developed to support social enterprises and, according to the Hylo website, it "makes it easy to bring new things into reality with the support of your community." The platform was developed by a nonprofit organization, also called Hylo. It brings together groups based on the shared purpose, by enabling individuals in different groups to ask questions, share information, and make things happen by supporting each other. The International Development Innovation Network (IDIN), out of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is assessing whether or not to continue using the Hylo platform. IDIN runs cohort-based innovation summits. They use Hylo to enable their summit participants to easily connect with all previous alums across all summits to continue to communicate and innovate collaboratively. The case describes the Hylo product evolution, the IDIN problems, and the two organizations' values and activities in order to describe the co-creation of an ecosystem for innovation and the development of new technical innovations in partnership with customers.
