Robin finished a quick phone conversation with her news director and stared at the ground as she prepared for her live shot. Her upcoming on-air update outside an early-morning house fire seemed to be of secondary importance after being asked by the fire chief to not show the residence in her shot. She wanted to deny the request, especially with only two live looks left, but the chief politely explained that crews had not yet informed the homeowners of the devastating news. In the small community of Garden City, Robin understood why first responders would not want the family to learn the news through television reports, even if no one was home when the fire started. Robin did not have an issue with moving her shot, until a competitor station arrived and began showing the house in its report. When confronted by Robin, the competitor's reporter noted that the fire chief had not asked them to avoid showing the house. Robin's anger turned to doubt about agreeing not to show the home. Her photographer indicated they were ten seconds out. She raised her mic, unable to dismiss any concern about their shot, and prepared for her report. "Let's hope this doesn't backfire " she thought.
