- Summary:
- On January 1, 2019, Wei Hong-ming took over chairmanship of the board of the mother company of Master Kong from his father. Master Kong is a household name in Greater China and the leader in the instant noodles market, and the Wei family was the richest family in Taiwan in 2012 and 2020. However, when Wei took the reins of the company, its stock price was only about 40% of its peak level 8 years ago. There were also a number of challenges that Wei needed to deal with. This case invites students to look at challenges that a successor of a family business faces and consider whether the succession issue of this family business is commonplace for other family businesses.
