Summary:
In the Roman period, the Betic province was an important producer of wheat, oil and wine. This last product is known from wine amphoras found throughout the empire, but no production sites had been located. In the Lower Guadalquivir lies the colony of Hasta Regia, in an area that is currently the centre of production for Xeres Sherry. This book analyses through literary sources such as the agronomist Columella, the study of materials and surface surveys the cultivation techniques, the production parameters and the distribution of these products. Its ultimate object is to propose a model of analysis of the territory using Geographical Information Systems to calculate and model the wine production of this region.
