- Summary:
- This is a manuscript of the public prayers to be recited by the chazzan following the reading of the Torah on the Sabbath in an Ashkenazic congregation. The manuscript consists of multiple pasted leaves to cardboard, with two punch holes at the top originally tied with string for the manuscript to be carried by the chazzan while holding the Torah scroll. Since the caption title designates it as a liturgical order of "the community of Ashkenazim", it originates from an Ashkenazic community in northern Italy (such as Padua or Casale Monferrato). The prayers consist of the two complete paragraphs of Yekum purkan (two Aramaic prayers originating in Babylonia in the 8th-9th centuries), a prayer recited on the Sabbath preceding Rosh Hodesh (announcing the name of the upcoming month and the day Rosh Hodesh is to fall out on), a prayer for the protection of the monarch and his reign (with an adhered note specifying that the monarch "המלך Vittorio Emanuele II Rue d'Italia", referring to Victor Emmanuel II King of Italy), and a final blessing for the congregation, specially "those who donate candles for lighting, wine for ḳidush (the ceremonial blessing over wine recited on Friday nights) and Havdalah (ceremony marking the end of the Sabbath), bread for the visitors, and alms for the poor." Written in 22 long lines on recto and 28 on verso in an Italian square script; text in parenthesis on verso written in an Italian cursive script.
