Summary:
For the first time, the National Museum of Fine Arts presents in its galleries a retrospective exhibition by Norah Borges. This fact is, one of a biography of this unique plastic artist and possibly will leads us to reflect on the role of women in art throughout the 20th century. Norah transited almost the entirety of the last century and yet her work is timidly depicted in national public collections. The exhibition of which this catalogue is accounted for, curated by the specialist Sergio Baur, highlights the intimate self and production of Norah Borges as a visual artist inscribed in the ultraist movement and in her prolific role as illustrator of various avant-garde Spanish and Argentine publications of the early 1900's. In her work she experimented with multiple techniques, such as drawing, painting and engraving, all marked by simplicity, lightness and subtlety. "I like that in my paintings everything is still and silent," she said, and that is the same discretion she adopted in her life, which always took place in an atmosphere of intimacy, away from the center of the art scene.
