Summary:
Throughout the text, the author analyzes artistic practice as part of the social, political and cultural processes that make up contemporary Peru. The junctures in which art participated in critical reflections on the country are confronted with recent theoriazations and historical accounts with recent theorizations and historical accounts that, in retrospect, account for the emergence of contemporary art in Lima. The author proposes to address the artistic and cultural transformations proposed by the military regime between 1968 and 1980 as a crucial moment to understand the redefinitions of avant-garde art. Finally, the book aims to discuss the historical and ideological substrate of the recent articulation of the Lime art scene to the global contemporary art system.
