Summary:
This is a manuscript of a sermon, drafted in the hand of Ben-Zion Meir Ḥai Ouziel (Refaeli); dated Ḥol ha-moʻed Pesaḥ 5697 (it is likely this date was the sermon's delivery, and not the date of writing or composition). The verse initially read for predication, Malachi III:23-4, especially selecting "והשיב לב אבות על בנים"; the themes of the sermon are Jews as children of God (f. 1r-3r), paternal connection in Jewish history (f. 3r-9r), the rabbinate and connections to prophecy (specifically prophetic return to Zion at the end of days; f. 10r), and an analysis of parentage in Halakhah, with material about the study of Pirke Avot, or Chapters of the Fathers (f. 11r-14r); conclusion, an essay on customs of the prophets compared to patrilineal customs (מנהג נביאים ומנהג אבות; f. 15r-17r). Written in a semicursive 20th century Turkish Hebrew script; pages in various inks, cross-outs, unfilled parenthesis (citations), and later additions; paper commercial grid pages torn from a notebook.
Contents:
1. f.1r-3r: Banim atem la-H' eloḳekhem
2. f.3r-10r: Avot u-banim
3. f.11r-14r: Mili de-avot
