Biography/History:
Maxwell Whiteman, a prominent Philadelphia historian, archivist and antiquarian bookseller, was born in 1914. During his long career Whiteman has served as associate director of the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati, the librarian of Dropsie University, archivist of the Union League of Philadelphia, and as a commissioner of the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission. Whiteman has a number of books to his credit including; a history of the Jews of Philadelphia, several studies of Afro-American literature, a history of the Union League of Philadelphia, and a history of the Einstein Medical Center of Philadelphia.
