Biography/History:
Elizabeth Hankey, born Elizabeth Thomson, first married to John Hankey and later to Turner Straubenzee.
Summary:
Autograph letter, dated Jan. 29th 1784, signed Eliza Straubenzee addressed to John Peter Hankey Esq., Bishopsgate Street, written to her sons from whom she is separated as a result of her divorce from their father. The letter gives details of her first impressions of life in India. There is some loss of text where the wax seal was broken.

An account of Elizabeth Thomson’s adultery trial, "Adultery. The very interesting and remarkable trial of Mrs. Elizabeth Hankey..." was published in London in 1783 (English Short Title Catalog, T95756).
