The 2nd-3rd, 5th, and 9th works based on hymn tunes; the 2nd on Bliss' It is well with my soul, the 3rd on Mason's Olivet, the 5th on Lowry's Nothing but the blood of Jesus, and the 9th on Bradbury's Jesus loves me. The 6th-7th works based on the spirituals There is a balm in Gilead and Were you there when they crucified my Lord, respectively.
