Biography/History:
Born 1755 in Dublin, Ireland, Wade was First Clerk of the Irish Treasury in the 1780s and 1790s. He was later a stock broker in London, England. Wade wrote pamphlets on stocks and trading in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In 1783 Wade commissioned a medal, created by William Mossop, for Dr. Henry Quin as a token of gratitude for saving his life. In the literary world he appears on several subscriber lists of translated works including Dante. He was a member of the Royal Irish Academy. In 1774 Wade married Mary Parks in Dublin. Wade died in 1835 and is buried at St. Pancras, Middlesex, England.
Summary:
Two volumes comprising a handwritten translation of the Inferno by Dante, translated by Robert Watson Wade in 1804. The original Italian verse is written on the versos with the English translation in parallel on the facing rectos, with line numbers. Each canto begins with a short summary. Volume 1 includes a preface and a biography of Dante by Wade. A leaf of blotting paper is laid in Volume 1. A note is laid in Volume 2.
