Summary:

"Nature in Megacities" comprises an in-depth study, relating economics and ecology, on the environmental benefits of urban vegetation, especially in megacities. The focus of this study is the city of São Paulo in Brazil, which emerged in the middle of a forest and today has one of the largest urban concentrations in the world, being recognized as a megacity. In his introduction, the author deals with the reciprocal relationship between the city and its vegetation by presenting, with multidisciplinary approaches, an overview of urban ecology and the role of vegetation. Jörg Spangenberg (Germany 1972) discusses the importance of urban vegetation in the local climate balance and, in this way, the city itself can become an agent in combating global warming and also the erosion of biodiversity. The book ends with Spangenberg interviewing architect Oscar Niemeyer.
