Manuscript letter on blank portion of printed circular dated November 27th, 1795.
Circular letter from the firm of Rocquette, Elsevier & Beeldemaker announcing that they had taken over the business of Messrs. Van der Hoeven and Versluys (Jakobus Joannes Versluijs, 1758-1843). The letter also includes an account of current prices for West India products including sugar and coffee and notes that Versluys will continue in the business to assist Jan Beeldemaker who was then serving as the American consul at Rotterdam. Rocquette, Elsevier & Beeldemaker were known for their activity in American affairs.
"Early printed circular, part of a 1795 incoming stampless ship letter from Rotterdam, Netherlands to Boston (ultimately addressed to Newburyport). Partial Boston straightline, franklin marking at upper left, sh 12 rate (8 cents domestic postage plus 4 cent ship fee). With additional enclosure and printed letter behind the printed circular."--Vendor's description.
