Summary:
This is a manuscript catalog of the books in the estate of Leopold Zunz (1794-1886; founder of Wissenschaft des Judenthums); these books were left over from his estate following his death (in 1886; title, f. 1r). Title page is stamped with the stamp of the Frankfurt am Main Judaica bookdealer and antiquarian J. Kauffmann; it is likely that Kauffmann executed the manuscript for inventory of the collection before selling (perhaps individually) its books, possibly with the intent of housing the manuscript in an institutional library. Titles listed alphabetically (in Hebrew) with authors and imprints written adjacent in German; 16th century books include (Amsterdam 1680; f. 27v); the majority of the books are from the 18th and 19th centuries. Title with built-in calligraphic capitals (titles filled in black ink, "ספרי עברית" crosshatched); titles of books in an Ashkenazic square script; authors and imprints in a German cursive script. Written in 26 entries on commercial ledger paper (Hebrew and German separated by a vertical bounding line); bound in blue buckram.
