Summary:
In Jürgen Flimm's highly acclaimed 2018 Le Nozze di Figaro, picturesquely-weathered shutters and wickerwork chairs greet the Almavivas as they arrive at their summer residence. The sunny setting is perfect for the lighthearted merriment on the way, but also leaves room for the German stage director's strikingly nuanced interpretation of the masterpiece's familiar personalities: Lauri Vasar's intense and reticent Figaro, Anna Prohaska's graceful and strong-willed Susanna, Ildebrando d'Arcangelo's serious and aristocratic Count, Marianne Crebassa's sensuous and tormented Cherubino, and finally Dorothea Röschmann's noble and dignified Countess. Mozart's timeless score gets an all-star treatment from the Staatskapelle Berlin, which outdoes itself under the meticulous direction of Gustavo Dudamel.
