Performing 20th century masterpieces for her instrument by Rachmaninov, Scriabin, and Prokofiev, Wang brings all her sensitivity and virtuosity to bear in this remarkable program. Préludes and Études by Rachmaninov--one of the 20th century's most iconic and contrasting composers for the piano--form the backbone of the recital program. These shorter works are juxtaposed with Scriabin's ecstatic Sonata No. 10--his final contribution to the genre--and Prokofiev's Sonata No. 8, composed during the Second World War and celebrated by Sviatoslav Richter as "the richest of all of Prokofiev's sonatas.
