- Summary:
- From its beginning, the world's greatest artists have been part of The Wiener Symphoniker's traditional Easter concert Springtime in Vienna. In 2019, the talented conductor Lahav Shani is at the baton, side by side with the exceptional violinist Renaud Capuçon. From the heart of the Austrian capital, the Wiener Symphoniker presents a very French program of works by Paul Dukas, Maurice Ravel, and Ernest Chausson. All three Parisians and contemporaries of one another, they had a founding influence on the impressionist style in music. Along with Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel was at the movement's forefront, while Paul Dukas also made an important contribution with his celebrated Sorcerer's Apprentice (immortalized by Walt Disney's Fantasia). Though his works are considered Romantic rather than impressionist, Ernest Chausson was a friend of the movement's leading members: Paul Dukas and Claude Debussy joining him at his home on numerous occasions!
