- Summary:
- Award-winning filmmaker Larry Weinstein transports us back to the first difficult decades of the 20th century when Arnold Schönberg was struggling against the backdrop of poverty and war to bring his new vision of music to the world. Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century was a difficult home for Arnold Schönberg: poor and isolated, the revolutionary composer lived in one of Europe's most conservative musical scenes, and his provocative new music and Twelve-Tone method were met with hostility. Weinstein's documentary explores that period, featuring excerpts from live performances of Verklärte Nacht, the Gurre-Lieder, and String Quartet No. 2, among other works by the composer.
