- Summary:
- When thinking of Brazil, the samba is one of the first things that comes to mind. But Georges Gachot's documentary O Samba de Georges Gachot seeks to look beyond this cliché and consider the samba on its own terms. Samba cannot be reduced to a simple dance or movement of the hips. It's also language, text, lyrics, a way of life, and a way of fighting against racial prejudice. In this documentary the composer and singer Martinho da Vila guides us through today's world of Samba. We visit his Samba school in Rio de Janeiro, the Vila Isabel, a winner of Carnaval 2013. The film features da Vila joined by Nana Mouskouri, Martinho Da Vila, the Samba School Vila Isabel, Mart'nalia, Maira Freitas, Ney Matogrosso, Leci Brandao, Moyses Marques, Zeca Baleiro, Paula Lima and many others!
